Did you know insurance companies sometimes fail to pay their own customers' claims in a reasonable and timely manner? Does that surprise you? The American Association for Justice (AAJ), of which I am proudly a member, issued a report recently on the Ten Worst Insurance Companies in America. Your personal injury claim may require more work to settle than you think. Hiring a lawyer on a contingent-fee basis (where the lawyer gets paid only if they are able to settle your claim or win a trial on your behalf) can be an important part of securing your rights. After you get paid by the person that hurt you, you may have your own insurance claims. If you have an insurance claim against your own insurance company and they are giving you the "run around," you need to be represented by a competent lawyer. Colorado has a law that requires your own insurance company to pay money it owes you in a reasonable period of time-- it is illegal to unreasonably delay or deny payment of your valid insurance claim.
